1.
In the center of the garden Tree of knowledge, tree of life Bore the fruit which, ever tempting Once we ate it brought much strife Wisdom, oh what deadly knowledge Separated us from Thee Knowledge led to broken family Needing Love to set us free
2.
There are two ways, paths to follow One of darkness, one of light One which leads us to destruction And an endless fear of night Lead us on the way of justice Guide us to the way of light Happy, there, we put our roots down Happy, there, we’re set to right You make us trees Trees that bring life Life to this world World without end LORD, You’re watching over our steps As we learn to know Your Truth Which You gave us at the mountain Where the Law became our proof Seeking justice as we follow Loving others, loving You For we know that there is no Law Above loving all from You
3.
God speaks over the waters like thunder His voice is powerful His voice is majesty God’s voice breaks the cedars of Lebanon His voice strikes like lightning His voice shakes the desert God gives strength to His people for He is King His voice twists the oaks His voice it strips the bark Right off the trees Glory, glory, glory We cry for His glory God blesses His people with peace God blesses His people with peace
4.
With mouths of praise, and tongues of grace We sing God's praises here We seek His way, He hears our cry He makes our pathway clear Open your mouths and taste Open your eyes and see God is good God's near to us in darkness His ear tuned to our cries He's near us in our brokenness Crushed spirits become wine Though the dark surrounds us At night we beg "Relief!" Brokenness won't be our song Death will not be a thief Open your mouths and taste Open your eyes and see Open your mouths and taste Open your eyes and see God is good Come and listen This is true worship To turn from evil and do good To seek peace and to pursue it
5.
Our prayer this morning Is to be a blessing To those who cause suffering To rejoice with those who are rejoicing To weep with our friends as they’re weeping We are putting on Christ Like a new skin That we won’t fill in Til resurrection We will eat with the poor And party like priests We will serve ridiculous feasts Inviting all whom we love and adore And those we wish would not come through our door Help us seek peace As far as we can And let You bring justice in righteousness As You arrive and set all things to right Until then please help us to learn not to fight
6.
Oh wise one, where did you go? Oh debater, what defense can you make? Oh writer, what became of your words? Foolish words, when they fall, will break Let the words that leave our mouths And the thoughts that we think Be acceptable and true and of You Our wisdom is foolishness, we know And our strength is utterly weak Break and remake us, Jesus Your life-blood is what we seek We carry this foolish cross A message of hope to this world To bring life to the deadliest dark A mystery, a seed, a pearl
7.
We love ferociously as lions Laying down with lambs Because we know that our sin Needs the same covering We serve as happily as slaves set free But choose to stay We know of God’s grace We give it back as an offering We speak as ones who utter The very words of God We know Jesus is hope He is why we are singing For in Him and through Him And to Him are all things So in Him and through Him And to Him, we all sing
8.
In the center of the city On a barren, rugged tree Jesus bore the weight of evil Purposing to set us free Free from wisdom, ever fleeting And our sinfulness so rife He was raised, with new creation Ushered in the age of Life From the middle of the city Flows a river, clear and wide There’s a tree, whose produce giveth Healing to God’s precious bride Jesus is the nations’ Savior God Himself, He is our Light All creation will proclaim that Everything is set to right The Tree of Knowledge led all to death The Tree of Death leads all to life The Tree of Life will heal the world And set this world to right
